Interview with KDotForbes
Hometown: Brooklyn NY
Describe your sound as if we were deaf
I have an energetic, fun, easy, powerful, new sound. Like everything that hasn’t been heard in hip-hop.
What producers, songwriters and/or artists do you see as your primary inspirations?
First and foremost my biggest inspiration has to be Michael Jackson. He made me want to get on a stage in the first place. After MJ it’s Jay-Z, for the simple fact that we’re from the same place and I seen where he has taken it. Last but not least, Bow Wow because of the work he put in at such a young age, I took notice to that and looked up to him.
Do you have a favorite musical project that you’ve worked on?
My first mixtape “Summer School Session”. Being that it was my first official mix-tape I got an idea of how to put together a collective piece. Putting it together was such a learning experience. It’s my favorite though because I don’t think my hunger will ever compare to that. I had about 5 fans before that dropped and I was aiming to increase that rate LOL.
What was the main factor for launching your career when you did?
Honestly, I was kind of upset with what hip-hop was becoming. I felt we -as a whole- were forgetting about the essence. So this is where I step in.
Who are some people you would like to work with?
I look forward to working with artists such as Kanye West, Willow Smith, Leona Lewis, Swizz Beats, Jay Electronica, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj just to name a few.
How is the internet changing your craft?
It’s not necessarily changing my craft. I would look at it as expanding my craft. Now I can reach the masses without actually being at the masses. It’s a win win situation.
Do you feel like what you are doing is important?
Yes I do. I love what I represent; a dream. Im instilling the art of belief into my listeners.
What’s more important than encouraging positivity and belief?
Lastly, could you talk about any long-term goals or talents you have in mind?
Well, initially I want to be at the head of the industry by the time I am 30. I would also like to break off into other sections of the industry such as movies, tv shows, broadway etc. I also look forward to the entrepreneurship of KDotForbes. I want to be the first hip-hop artist that owns an amusement park. All part of my dream.
