Interview With Dea Pierre
Please explain exactly what it is you do and are known for?
I do everything I want to do. I’m a creator. I bartend to pay for all my art endeavors. What I’m known for, tattoos, big boobs, and for always creating something.
What was the main factor for launching your career when you did?
I have yet to launch my career, I can say that I am and have been preparing the foundation for my future but as of right now I am building up a cliental for my future business because truthfully I do not like working for anyone. I am building my voice and work so that my creations will start a movement. I always knew I’d being doing something artistic and owning a business, all this time I have just been finding my way.
How are some artists or individuals you see as your primary inspirations?
Picasso seriously, way before Jay Z made the song, Picasso work is not your standard art. First time I saw his work as a little girl I saw all the depth in what at first glance looks like blended piece of randomness, abstract, colorful messy art, pure genius. I loved being able to see his vision when others around me didn’t get him, but I got him, and in that I felt like me and him would’ve been best friends, same as Keith Haring. Keith was just no holds barred, no censorship or hesitation in expressing himself. He just lived, created. These two help me stay strong in my art and creations. Keeps me focused on my own work, there is no competition and no comparing in art, no one piece is better than the other, all subjective.
Then I have everyday inspirations such as my friends who I grow and work with, I see their day to day struggles that they use as fuel and fire to keep going. With that kind of energy with you it’s impossible to even think of quitting.
How is the Internet changing what you do?
Easy publicity. IG more than anything helps market my brand, allows people to repost and share or just link to me and builds an audience for me. What I do is visual and though people don’t have the time to listen to me or read about what I’m doing the power of just posting a photo and caption can get my work out there so quickly. But that’s obvious.
Do you feel like what you are doing is important?
What I’m doing is very important, to people I want to encourage and to my future off spring. I raised myself, which means I found myself, I built myself up, I encouraged myself, I was my own motivation. There are things that I overcame alone and if I can create something that gives someone hope and motivate them to keep them pursuing their passion or to keep loving their self then I will do so. Art has the power to touch people and get their attention. I aim to do that.
How do you separate yourself from others?
There are others?
Do you consider yourself an artist?
Artist: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
Yes. I consider myself an artist
Could you talk about any long-term goals you have in mind?
Just that the goal is to be signing the front of the checks, not the back.
