Interview with Lavan Wright
I am an Artist, I create whatever comes to mind, translated through many different mediums. I’m known mostly for Graphic Design, I’ve created 65+ logos and designs for many different people. Still counting. I’ve also been tattooing as well as designing clothing and painting.
MAIN FACTOR FOR LAUNCHING YOUR CAREER WHEN YOU DID?
Well I’ve been working in the Graphic design field for a while. Didn’t start taking it seriously until I, along with the help of a few business partners created a Brand called Kreemo in 2008. Even then I couldn’t honestly call it my career. I didn’t start my real solid career until I decided to step out from under the Kreemo umbrella. And I did that because I felt it was time for me to expand.
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR PRIMARY INSPIRATIONS?
Well a big inspiration to me is KAWS. His unique style of work really resonates with me. His ability to make everything his own is a strong suit that I am building in my own style. Other inspirations like takashi marakami, sir Mitchell, banksy, pharrell, Kanye, kid Cudi and nigo (just to name a few lol) inspire me in that same way they each have developed a style that they’ve called home all while continuing to be amazingly versatile and formidably relevant.
HOW IS THE INTERNET CHANGING WHAT YOU DO?
The internet is a big factor of change in my life and others. Everything is so accessible now. Anything you want you can have and anything you search you can find. The internet has made it easier for me to expose my artwork to others, and easier for me to draw inspiration from my fellow peers. Only big bad thing about the internet is the depletion of patience. The internet caters to our impatience. Used wrong it can brake you. However, used properly it can make u.
DO YOU FEEL LIKE WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS IMPORTANT?
Yes, I’ve learned in my life that I can’t bottle my creativity up, it genuinely makes me complete to create. Art has become my lungs, without it I wouldn’t breathe. A legal addiction. Not to sound selfish but I believe it’s important because it’s important to me. Coincidently while I’m therapeutically using my work, it is inspiring others, motivating them to step out of the box. I’m helping ppl start their own businesses, helping them get out their dreams. That’s important .
HOW DO YOU SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM OTHERS?
I don’t think like everyone else. May sound cliche, but I have a very unique mind. I’m just myself.
DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AN ARTIST?
Does a bear sh*t in the woods and wipe his *ss with a rabbit? Nah but yes. Yes I do.
COULD YOU TALK ABOUT ANY LONG-TERM GOALS?
My long term goal is to have my own studio where I can create freely, host artshows and curate them. Tattoo, screenprinting, Just everything I work on, all in one place, my place.
