Tamika aka Olivia Dope

Describe your sound as if we were deaf?

A pair of Verasce bell bottom jeans, adorned with sparkly sequins… Hanging off your ass. Britney, Bee Gees, Biggie and everything in between.

What is distinctive about your mixing?
I like to call it “Punch Line Mixing” . I love mixing and blending timeless hits and mixing songs based on word play. For example: Mark Morrison’s ‘Return of the MACK’ blended into ‘Own It’ by MACK Wilds… Music for the Thinking Man.

What producers, songwriters and/or artists do you see as your primary inspirations?
Pharrell Williams, Timbaland & Swizz Beatz. It’s evident these three producers hear music differently. Thats why they are always able to give their audiences something they’ve never heard before. Always relevant, always reinventing.

What was the main factor for launching your career when you did?
I wanted to build my own career and be a great role model for my then 3 year old daughter. I want her to know that following your dreams and happiness is the key to success. What better way to learn that then from home.

Who are some people you would like to work with?

All 3 aforementioned producers ( Timbaland, Pharrell & Swizz). I’ve been lucky enough to already meet 2 out of 3 of them based on my beliefs of speaking things into existence so I’m very positive working with them is definitely in my future as well.

How is the internet changing your craft?

The internet has definitely given me a greater platform to connect with people and give them access to my music, parties, events and special projects. I’m even fake famous in NYC thanks to instagram.

Do you feel like what you are doing is important?

Lastly, could you talk about any long-term goals or talents you have in mind?
I plan on really solidifying myself as a Fashion DJ. In addition to DJing, I also have a clothing line called Liv Dope. I’ve already built a great rep so far DJing notable events in the NY fashion scene (Angela Simmons, The Blonds, celeb stylist Jason Rembert) so I’d love to have those same celebs that hire me for their events to wear my designs [Speaks it into existence..]

Where can we find some of your stuff? or
