Interview with Gina Lee
• Performing Artist •
Name: Gina Lee
Location: New York
Describe your sound as if we were deaf:
My sound is very refreshing, bouncy, groovy, hard-hitting. It’s a fusion of r&b and hip hop. You can definitely hear the 90’s influence.
What producers, songwriters and/or artists do you see as your primary inspirations?
I am greatly inspired and study people like Missy Elliott, Beyonce, and Jessie J.
Do you have a favorite musical project that you’ve worked on?
I’d have to say my favorite music project is the one I’m working on as we speak. My EP, ‘The Last Hope’ is set to release this summer. I believe it’s my best work yet! From the live production down to the lyrical content. I’m extremely excited to share this with the world.
What was the main factor for launching your career when you did?
The day I decided to go 100% into launching my career, I was dissatisfied with the routine of my life at the time. I always knew I had a passion for music and performing. And I had started out at a young age performing in a Broadway musical ‘The Lion King’. But somewhere along the line I had given that up and found myself working in a call center. I of course quit that job, and many sacrifices later, I’m here today.
Who are some people you would like to work with?
How is the internet changing your craft?
The Internet hasn’t changed my craft much. The time I started taking my music career serious, the Internet had already played a big part in it. Of course over the years as it developed, it became more vital but to me it hasn’t changed much.
Do you feel like what you are doing is important?
I definitely feel like what I’m doing is important. We all know the many ways music can affect people. Whether it’s healing a broken heart or the soundtrack to night out partying. All of my music has come from my life experiences. Things that I’ve either gone through personally or someone close to me has. By sharing that, If I can inspire, or help people as they go through their life experiences then I’m happy.
Lastly, could you talk about any long-term goals or talents you have in mind?
As I briefly discussed earlier I also have an acting background. So that’s definitely something I plan on getting back into, whether it’s the big screen or in musicals. And of course there are a bunch of other goals I have like businesses I wish to start, my passion for real estate and interior design.
