Nine tracks. Sixteen minutes. Not one song past two minutes and two seconds. EVILSLIME 2, released on October 30, 2026 through Surf Gang Records, is a record that treats length as an insult. It arrives, makes its point, and leaves before you have finished deciding what you think. That is not laziness. It is a philosophy, and evilgiane has spent the better part of a decade refining it.

01THE PRODUCER AS RINGLEADER

In most of rap's history, the producer was the person behind the glass. evilgiane flipped that. As the central figure of Surf Gang, the Brooklyn collective of rappers and producers, he became something closer to a creative director: the person whose taste defines a scene, whose beats other artists build careers on top of, whose name on a credit is a guarantee of a certain feeling. He raps too, but his real instrument is the room — who is in it, what they sound like together.
The evilgiane sound is easier to feel than to describe. Beats are sparse and slightly smeared, as if recorded through a wall. Bass lines sit low and heavy while melodies drift above them, often hazy, sometimes almost sweet. Drums hit with a dry, punchy flatness. There is a lot of empty space, and the empty space is doing work: it lets the rapper's voice become the loudest instrument in the mix.

02SLIMESITO, IN THE GAP

Slimesito is perfectly built for that space. Born in Maryland and raised in Georgia, he raps in a relaxed, conversational drawl that floats just behind the beat, unhurried and quietly confident. He produces as well, which helps explain why the two fit so naturally: both understand that what you leave out matters as much as what you put in.
Their first project together, EVILSLIME, arrived in 2024 — eleven tracks billed as an EP. The sequel tightens the formula. evilgiane handles the bulk of the production, and there are no guest vocalists at all. It is just the two of them, which makes the record feel less like a compilation and more like a private language.
03WHAT THE RECORD SOUNDS LIKE

Lead single “GEORGIA STATE” is the clearest blueprint. Co-produced with fellow Surf Gang member EERA, it is dark and minimal, built on ominous low end with barely anything else, and every syllable Slimesito delivers lands clean. The pair trade lines casually, with charisma rather than force. Elsewhere the titles tell their own story — “LIK ROCKY,” “BAL MAIN,” “MF DOOM,” “WEST 2 EAST” — a playful map of the references that shaped this corner of rap: fashion, the underground legends, and the coast-to-coast geography of a scene that was born online.
The brevity changes how you listen. Because nothing overstays its welcome, you replay. Because the beats are so stripped back, tiny shifts — a filtered vocal, a bass slide, a dropped hi-hat — feel like events. It rewards attention rather than demanding it.
“It decided sixteen minutes was enough.”
04WHY A SOUND SPREADS

Why do some production styles become recognisable across an entire underground? Part of it is simple repetition: a collective releases constantly, shares beats internally and builds a shared palette until it becomes a dialect. Part of it is generosity. Surf Gang's producers work with rappers far outside their own circle, so the sound travels. And part of it is that minimalism is contagious. A beat with space in it invites a thousand different voices to fill it.
evilgiane's year shows the reach. He released HEAVENSGATE VOL. 2 in June, worked with London's AMMI BOYZ, toured with Snow Strippers, and played Boiler Room in Los Angeles alongside Bladee and Thaiboy Digital. These are not random bookings. They trace a network — American underground rap, UK grime-adjacent energy, Scandinavian cloud rap — that recognises itself in the same hazy, low-end-heavy sound.
05THE COLLECTIVE IS THE POINT

The lesson of EVILSLIME 2 is that independent collectives are not a stepping stone to something bigger. They are the bigger thing. Surf Gang has its own label, its own visual language, its own catalogue numbers and its own audience. It does not need a major to tell it what a single is or how long a song should be. It decided sixteen minutes was enough. Listen twice and you will probably agree.
